Head Coordinator: András Szőllősy-Sebestyén

Creating a new department

The intention to form a new department is communicated in advance by the future head of the department to the president, secretary general and head coordinator of the departments via e-mail. The details and the inaugural meeting are discussed with them and they will be invited to participate at the meeting as well. The official record of the inaugural meeting has to be formally approved by the next meeting of the board members.

Hungarian as a Foreign Language (MID) Department of HAALLT

The Department’s officials elected in March 2018 in Szeged:

Department Head

Orsolya Nádor (Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church / Comenius University)

Department Secretary

Péter Durst (SzTE)

Orsolya Maróti (KKM), Mónika Dóla (PTE), Edit Dobi (DNYE)

Since its foundation on 6 June 2016, 94 members have registered and 50-70 members regularly participate in the department’s events.

For publishing department members, it is worth noting that the TH L2 periodical has been awarded the “Scientific A” classification by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA).

The establishment of the department was exemplary as two further departments were founded in 2018: the Translation Studies Department and the Terminology Department. These departments and any future ones guarantee the continuous operation of our Association as well as providing opportunity for the members to actively participate in the discussion about Hungarian Applied Linguistics and the departments’ workshop conferences. Following the department’s establishment, the subsequent events have been welcome, the industry got involved and, furthermore, young professionals have joined as members, which is vital for the long term plans of the department. However, there is still much to be done.
